Nice espresso, fundamental fast eats, just a few wholesome snack choices: that is what Kaapi 2.0 is all about. The café, that now has seven retailers within the metropolis with three extra within the pipeline, was began by city-based Sathyan Balamanickam as a lockdown experiment in 2020. With 15 years of expertise within the meals business, the 36-year-old was confronted with uncertainty when the pandemic hit.

“I wished to begin one thing alone for an additional supply of earnings,” says Sathyan, seated on the rooftop of the newest addition to his chain close to Anna Silai on Avinashi Highway. A minimalistic café appeared like one thing that might work, and Sathyan gave it his all. “My focus was on providing wholesome choices to munch on with tea and occasional,” he says. His first outlet — his most profitable one until date — was at Vadavalli.

Sathyan began Kaapi 2.0 as a franchise mannequin in thoughts. “I’ve folks from all walks of life working our retailers,” he explains. “This contains an HR supervisor who stop his job to do one thing on his personal, an IT couple who wished a second earnings, and a homemaker eager on organising an all-women outlet.” Sathyan actually, has 50 folks working for him, a majority of whom consist of ladies.

Amongst Kaapi 2.0’s hottest choices are the kozhukattais: there are candy ragi and savoury purple rice variations. We attempt each with piping sizzling filter espresso: the ragi kozhukattai is aromatic of cardamom and isn’t cloyingly candy; the purple rice model goes properly with espresso, it’s generously flavoured with crushed inexperienced chillies. The flat ragi vadais are wonderful, they’re fried to perfection with loads of onions and peanuts that add extra crunch and texture. There are chocolate buns and chocolate polis too, other than the same old teashop regulars like samosas and puffs.
