A Kabul police chief spokesman has confirmed there are casualties after an explosion close to a mosque within the Afghan capital

An explosion went off close to a mosque in Afghanistan’s capital of Kabul on Friday, with police confirming casualties.

A column of black smoke rose into the sky and pictures rang out a number of minutes after the blast within the metropolis’s diplomatic quarter.

Khalid Zadran, a spokesman for the Kabul police chief, confirmed there have been casualties, however couldn’t present a quantity for these killed or wounded.

Inside Minister spokesman Abdul Nafi Takor mentioned the blast went off on the principle highway close to the mosque. He mentioned the trigger was below investigation. Mr. Takor mentioned police groups had been on the website and that an investigation was underway.

Mosques have beforehand been a goal for assaults.

The blast passed off close to the Wazir Akbar Khan mosque which, in 2020, was struck by a bomb that killed two individuals, together with the mosque’s prayer chief.
